Permaculture consulting

Want a one on one? I offer personalized consultations to optimize your space for permaculture, medicinal herbscaping, and foodscaping. I can help you review your space, select plants, offer advice, and help you customize your plan to fit your needs. I also offer full permaculture design services, and can work with you over the process of creating a permaculture plan and garden design.

I have experience in designing systems, growing medicinals gardens, growing for home and for mutual aid systems, and implementing community models to support unique community centered aid and reciprocity based systems. Meet with me once or more to review your plans and get advise, or, work with me on a project basis to design an entire system.

  • Create a home permaculture system
  • Create a medicinal garden for your zone and region
  • Expand your current system
  • Implement medicinal plants into your existing permaculture system
  • Create gardens for specific needs (school, community, senior center, food pantry, prison, herbal shares, mutual aid, etc.).
  • Review your plans and get feedback from me
  • Brainstorm systems to help you reach your goals
  • Review your social systems ideas and receive feedback and ideas
  • Foodscape your space to incorporate fruit, vegetables, herbs, and other plants in a beautiful and functional way.
  • You can grow food and medicine in any size of space - I had only an apartment deck with pots when I first started!

I work with you to plan and suggest functional designs based on your space, experience, needs, zone, and physical needs (age of children, accessibility needs, etc.). Right now I am consulting one on one, but will be offering online courses soon!

Grow Your Own Food and Medicine!

Food and Medicine can be grown in all kinds of spaces. From pots on the deck to integrated landscaping that is food and not just ornamental, you can utilize your space to grow more food and medicine!

Often people don't want to tear out their yard area (playspace or dog space) and feel they don't have any room to plant food! Adding perennial plantings can be as easy as replacing those landscape plants surrounding your home with edibles and medicinal plants such as blueberries, rhubarb, echinacea, black and red currants, anise hyssop, monarda, St. John's Wort, and so on. Perennials are also easy to manage and don't require a lot of work.

A foodscape or herbscape design can be integrated from the start as you plan your new home landscaping, it can be retrofit into your existing landscaping, or it can be new garden areas designed into your open spaces. Foodscapes can be organically shaped beds planted as permaculture or polycultures with mulch and borders that looks beautiful and functions as food. Foodscapes can also be designed as spaces cleaved from your edges or by expanding landscaping areas to incorporate more perennial and annual plants.

And finally, foodscapes can completely replace your lawn so that you grow food and medicine and not turf. I love also designing spaces with grass pathways that can easily be mowed using a scythe or push mower, look lovely and inviting, and yet minimize the need for water as the pathway is a part of the integrated beds and gets nourishment from the surrounding food plantings.

Foodscaping can be inclusive of all abilities as well. Raised beds, growing in pots, tabletop gardens, and vertical gardens can be used, for example, if you are not able to bend to the ground. We can all enjoy growing our own food and medicine, and I'm happy to work with folks to design gardens that work for their specific needs.
