Mullein and a Bumblebee
This digital mixed media print is of Mullein, Verbascum thapsus. You can find this plant in disturbed soil, along roadsides, and in empty lots in Wisconsin, though it is not native. It is thought to have been introduced from Europe as a medicinal herb, and by the early 1800's was naturalized throughout the east coast, arriving to the midwest by the mid 1800's. The leaf, root, and flower are used medicinally - the leaf for cough, respiratory support, and for skin issues, the flower for ear drops, and the root for urinary support.
