Spotted Monarda
This digital mixed media print is of Spotted Beebalm, Monarda punctata. It is a lovely native plant to Wisconsin, and loves sunny sandy areas. Historically it was called Oswego Tea as the Oswego tribe used it as a tea, which led to colonists using it as a substitute for British tea in protest of the tea tax, leading to the Boston Tea Party in 1773. Today, it is still used in tea similarly to sage, for respiratory support and cold/flu. It is loved by so many pollinators, including bees, wasps, and butterflies, as well as hummingbirds.
