Mentoring Opportunities

Empowering HWB Members to Advance Clinical, Community, and Formulary Practice
At HWB, our goal is to help members build real-world skills through structured, hands-on mentorship. This program is open to current HWB members who volunteer under our 501(c)(3) umbrella and are accepted into the mentoring program. Whether you seek clinical experience, community outreach, teaching practice, or formulary/logistics skills, we provide guided pathways from beginner to independent practice with oversight.

Our Mission

• Provide direct clinical and community volunteer opportunities in free clinics, local chapters, and partner projects.
• Offer accessible, structured mentorship both in person and virtually so supervision is possible regardless of geography.
• Document and verify experiential learning and hours to support industry-recognized credentialing requirements.
• Build a collaborative network that strengthens community herbalism, education, and the U.S. Donation Network.

Program Pathways

• Clinical Herbalism Mentorship: Progressive, supervised roles in HWB free clinics or via Zoom—starting with intake/support, moving to observation, co-consulting, and then independent consultations with oversight (where local mentors are available).
• Community Herbalism Mentorship: Mentoring with community herbalists and chapters to deliver nonclinical care—education/outreach, wellness events, supply preparation, apothecary work, and inclusive resource creation.
• Clinical Supervision for Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy-focused supervision in clinical/community settings (in person or virtual). Emphasis on assessment, safety screening, dilution and delivery using pre-approved products, client education, and documentation (no formulation focus).
• Virtual Clinical Experience: Remote observation of consented or de-identified consultations, case discussions, simulated intakes, and care-plan drafting—ideal when no local mentors/clinics are available.
• Formulary Experience Mentorship: Needs-driven formulation and production skills with the U.S. Donation Network—assess requests and inventory, design to spec, complete SOPs and batch/label/QC records. Includes optional in-person volunteering at the Wisconsin site for making, packing, and shipping. U.S.-based mentees may receive limited samples; others receive virtual equivalents.
  
  There is a fee with clinical and formulary mentorships to cover HWB's administrative cost of hosted meetings, online hour tracking, case studies, reviews, and more. ​
  
  

Open mentorship is for those that want to learn while also volunteering for HWB, including garden, seed, herb, justice, and community work under the umbrella. This may include groups activities, community outreach, formulating, growing, seed management, and health justice initiatives. This is experiential learning in a more informal volunteer format, volunteering under HWB while also gaining experience in many different areas as needed.

Mentee Opportunities

For aspiring herbalists and herb growers in the greater Dane County, Wisconsin area, there are opportunities for learning in a hands-on environment here at Wholly Rooted farm. The minimum age for internships or volunteering opportunities is 18 - though we welcome older teens and young adults. We are a LGBTQIA2+ inclusive space.
