As a grower and cultivator of medicinal herbs, native plants, wildflowers, wild plants, and our botanical sanctuary, I have become very familiar with the trees and plants growing on our land. My journey with flower essences has been deeply personal and transformative. These liquid infusions capture the energetic imprint of flowers and plants, transferring their vibrational essence into water through intentional ritual. Their subtle nature make them ideal for those who are chemically sensitive, elderly, or facing physical challenges, providing a nurturing and accessible way to encourage healing and cultivate mindfulness.
In my work, I’ve personally witnessed how mindfulness, intention, meditation, and self-reflection—when combined with the use of flower essences—can create a sense of calm and healing for those who have experienced trauma. Engaging with flower essences in a thoughtful, cultivated ritual offers a powerful way to anchor attention, soothe the mind, and promote relaxation. This practice allows individuals to ground themselves in the present moment, focusing on the essence’s energy to gently guide them toward feelings of peace and balance. Over the years of living and working on this land, I’ve come to intimately know the native and wild plants, cultivated medicinals, woodland flora, prairie flowers, and all the life that surrounds me. As a caretaker of this land, I’ve developed a deep connection with these plants - observing and working with them all year round - where they thrive, and how they respond to the changing seasons. This relationship has naturally led me to create my own flower essences from the plants I tend. My process is deeply rooted in mindfulness and meditation. Walking meditation guides my care for the plants, from watering and gardening to harvesting. Every step is an act of gratitude and appreciation for all living beings. Making flower essences continues this meditative practice—a quiet, intentional ritual of connection, healing, and reverence. I harvest flowers by hand, fully present in the moment, and use clean well water and my grandmother’s vintage crystal to hold the essences. Placing them in the sun—or under the light of a full blue moon—I invite the energy of the environment into the process. As I bottle each essence with brandy, I maintain my meditative focus, reflecting on the qualities of the plant, the soil, the pollinators, the rain, and all the forces that brought this flower to life. This practice of creating essences is a deeply fulfilling ritual, weaving my hands, my heart, and my connection to this land into each bottle. These essences, imbued with care and intention, are then shared through the donation network, extending the healing energy of these plants to others. |
As a science-based practitioner, I’ve been deeply fascinated by the profound impact flower essences can have on emotional support and healing for individuals affected by trauma, and I’ve witnessed firsthand how meditation and self-care using flower essences serves as a powerful tool for emotional self-regulation and recovery. Our minds are incredibly powerful, and using tools to regulate and focus our energy on our emotional well-being can create a meaningful and lasting impact.
Two projects I’m currently immersed in bring together my work with flower essences and aromatherapy in new and meaningful ways. The first is creating flower essence aroma sprays, combining the energetic support of flower essences with the therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy. I’m excited by the possibilities these sprays offer as gentle tools for self-care, grounding, and emotional well-being. The second project involves developing ear seed protocols that integrate flower essences and aromatherapy. These protocols are designed to provide individuals with accessible tools for calming, emotional regulation, and finding balance, especially after experiencing trauma. Both projects reflect my passion for creating resources that empower others to nurture themselves through intentional and healing practices. Do you use flower essences? |
